IXXO has launched the GPSR Representative Service, available exclusively to IXXO Cart e-commerce clients. This new service helps merchants comply with the EU General Product Safety Regulation (EU) 2023/988, which took effect to enhance consumer protection and product accountability across the European market.

Under the GPSR, any business selling products to consumers in the European Union, whether based inside or outside the EU, must appoint an EU Authorised Representative (AR). The AR acts as the official contact point for regulators and market surveillance authorities, ensuring that the merchant’s products meet safety and traceability standards before reaching customers.

Why the GPSR Matters

The regulation replaces the older General Product Safety Directive (2001/95/EC) and extends safety requirements to online commerce and cross-border sales. It ensures that all consumer products available in the EU are traceable, safe, and adequately documented.

Non-compliance carries real risks for online sellers. Products can be withdrawn from the market, listings suspended, and fines imposed. The GPSR aims to create a level playing field between EU-based sellers and those abroad, requiring every product sold to EU consumers to have a responsible contact within the EU.

  2. Uploading required documentation (such as safety and conformity files).

  3. Verifying that all information meets EU compliance standards.

  4. Receiving confirmation that IXXO is officially registered as the EU representative.

Once active, IXXO maintains the required documentation, responds to any inquiries from authorities, and ensures ongoing compliance as regulations evolve.

Who Needs It

The service is essential for:

  • Non-EU merchants selling directly to EU consumers.

  • Businesses using the IXXO Cart e-commerce platform to reach EU buyers.

  • EU-based importers reselling products from outside the EU.

Even smaller sellers, like jewellery designers, artists, and niche retailers, are covered by the GPSR if they sell products online to EU customers.

Partnership with the Guild of Jewellery Designers (GOJD)

As part of a collaboration with the Guild of Jewellery Designers (GOJD), GOJD Connect Gold Members benefit from a 15% discount on the GPSR Representative Service. Many jewellery creators export to the EU, and this partnership provides them with a straightforward way to meet their legal obligations without incurring additional administrative costs.

Once approved, you’ll receive confirmation that IXXO serves as your official EU Authorised Representative under Regulation (EU) 2023/988.
